I love Pullman. His books are magnificent in every way, and people should read them before judging them.

I don't see what all the fuss is about. The series makes it clear that the being who dies is NOT actually God, just the first sentient being in the universe who CALLS himself God.
I wish it had been God, though -- Pullman really wimped out by making it an impostor who dissolved into nothingness. Had it been God that died, that would have been something else. That would have been gutsy.

@Jacklgf I don't want to sound like a dick but can't you trust your children to keep their faith if they want to read Pullman

@Jacklgf Because Narnia's Christian?

Nobody may stop me reading these books or loving the contents.

I read all three books when I was eleven. I didn't connect it to my religious beliefs at the time or anything of that nature, I just thought that it was a great story. What I was most enthralled by when I was a kid was young people on such a grand adventure, the scope of it, and what I was most moved by was Lyra and Will's love at the end. What I took away from it above all else was love.

@emmanuelorda It wasn't Weitz's fault, New Line screwed it over, taking the editing out of his hands and giving him less power.

I hope New Line will continue the sequels without Chris Weitz
religion is the greatest poison of them all...try some free thought , open mindedness and intellectual enquiry for a change..holler!

Do we really need to call it a belief that God doesn't exist? I don't 'believe' that fairies don't exist.
There is a severe lack of evidence, so there is no need to call it a belief in a non-existence
