Today I went to the Apple Store and got to spend a full hour with the new iPod Touch and with VoiceOver for the iPod Touch. My verdict? 10/10 I absolutely love it, and I feel it's definitely worth the upgrade from my first generation.

  • hey i have just bought an ipod shuffle but when i want to install the voice over the computer frezze and the it says that it is installing the voice over but at the end says that an unknown problem happend and itunes does not let me install the voice over. what can i do i can´t reset the ipod either itunes does not let me! please help!

  • Try freeing up some memory.

  • can I, in any way, get this VoiceOver on my iPod 2G 8 GB and 3.1.1 ipsw? if so pleeeaaasssseee tell me how!

  • VoiceOver is a hardware dependant feature, and is ONLY available on the iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 3rd Gen 32 & 64 GB. If you want to try it, go to your Apple store, and find a 32 GB iPod. Follow this path. Tap: Settings > General > Accessibility > VoiceOver, move the switch to "on". To get out of the dialog, flick right until you get to the "ok" button, and double tap to activate it. Flicking left & right moves, double tapping activates. You can practice gestures in the "Practice Gestures" area.

  • Why oh why do Apple have to use the Vocalizer speech engine? Why not use the Macintalk voices such as Fred, Ralf, Kathy, Bruce, Agnes etc? OK, I use the VR Stream, but I don't exactly like the Vocalizer voices very much. I understand it's not possible to use Alex on the iPod Touch/iPhone, but the other Macintalk voices should in theory work just fine.

  • Maybe we'll see them in an update to the iPhone OS.

  • You are just so helpful!!! Thank you!! I was looking at pda's for visually impaired users. They are SO expensive!! Do you think the ipod is the way to go?

  • Hey man I'm interested in getting myself an iTouch. I'm hoping I can get one.

  • VoiceOver will do fine with fair amount of apps, games are a BIG exception. It won't read those at all. It depends on how graphically intensive the games are.

  • i have the nano before they newest one and it does nto have voice over but it talks via text to spech , in the new one are u sure they just did nto keep it that way or does it have voice over i tought the only cnage was the camera as far as u decing wichin one it coems down to this would u use the paps if so then get the touch if not then get the nano
