This is correct. As long as they are FROZEN together you can push straight thru as it will normally only be a single hit on the cue and no foul. However if there is ANY space between the two balls it would be a double hit and considered a foul. Shooting down at the angle he shoots in the movie he would most likely NOT foul.

@8down10 If the balls are frozen, you could even stroke straight through it. As long as you don't double hit the cue ball, it's not a foul. And just in case you were wondering, Shannon Daulton was the one that explained this to me.
