This video shows the type B, "Cycle" engine, a multi-cycle engine that can run as a 4-stroke, a 2-stoke or a both cycles at the same time. It's shown running on full 2-stroke mode (firing each revolution). It has a glass head & the engine is being held on its side so you can see up into the cylinder. The fuel is being varied back & forth, rich & lean as it runs.
An orange/yellow flame indicates a rich mixture. An extremely rich mixture is shown by the bright flashing (when the engine misfires every other revolution). A lean mixture is shown by a light blue flame or areas that fade to no burn, (noticeable when the engine starts to slow). A deep blue flame is a close to perfect (stoichiometric) mixture.
This video was taken not long after it was first running & there was still some more stuff to do to it (new skids, finish the governor, ect.) To see it finished, click on the other type B "Cycle" engine video.

That`s fascinating, and shows the richness of the mixture nicely.
