From what I observe, Coke 'sponsored' or endorsed or encouraged the competition, and yes, i completely agree, the university did a GREAT job, not just good.
Unfortunately, from a strategic perspective, Coke continues to talk the language of the 1080's, sorry the 1980's.
No disrespect intended. The most successful brand in the world is now trapped in its own box of past success, hence this sort of local marketing initiative.
Not only do you struggle to find relevance for the Coke brand (since quite some time), then you demonstrate a clear misunderstanding of what viral marketing is and how not:-) to use it.
This is not viral, it is a nice marketing initiative at a local scale, which does nothing to help the fact the brand continues to struggle.
Nice movements by the U of O team, nice adaptation to the Coke world.
