From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

The novel takes place during the summer in 17th-century Boston, Massachusetts in a Puritan village.A young woman, named Hester Prynne, has been led from the town prison with her infant daughter in her arms and on the breast of her gown "a rag of scarlet cloth" that "assumed the shape of a letter." It was the uppercase letter "A". The Scarlet Letter "A" represents the act of adultery that she has committed and it is to be a symbol of her sin—a badge of shame—for all to see. A man in the crowd tells an elderly onlooker that Hester is being punished for adultery.

  • Those who are hoping to NOT have to read the book...SKIP THIS PART.

  • Demi Moore lookes like demi lovato in this movie

  • Olive Pendergast told us not to watch this version of the movie :P

  • But still this is very good... I love Pearl in this; the book makes her out to be so unnatural and elfish, but I think if we were really to see her, no one in our society would see anything wrong with her.

okay so, random rambling over. :)

  • This doesn't happen in the book...

  • Gary Oldman brought me here :)

  • Thumbs up if being too lazy to read the book for class and hoping you'll get the answers from watching the movie brought you here, Lol.

No seriously, if that's what you're here for, this movie is a far cry different from the book. Find a MUCH older version should you want a more realistic and terribly boring reveal of the story.

  • @JRduckzfaallt this part of the movie wasn't in the book :)

  • we just finished reading this book in class at first i found it really boring but then it got interesting i will surely recommend this book :)
