"Life has ended for me"

Merle Oberon was gorgeous and absolutely beautiful in this movie... her blank face showed so much passion ;D!

HE will always be Heathcliff to me

This film won NY Critics Circle award for BEST PICTURE over GWTW. Vivien Leigh coveted the part of Cathy, but director William Wyler told her she could only settle for supporting roles right now. He offered her the role of Isabella instead. (Geraldine Fitzgerald was later cast.) Willy later reflected that she really proved him wrong!

@krazykram HOW can you say this is no good its a MASTERPIECE & yes i have read the book
-
No good? It's only the greatest romance ever filmed. While it's true that it leaves out the second half of the book, it follows the first half quite closely. And Bronte only rolls in the grave when people misspell her name.
-
not only is it no good, it bears almost no resemblance to the novel which itself is excellent, also it cuts out the second half of the book with linton and cathy jr.......emily brinte would be turning in her grave if she saw this

@PONYBOY430 Thanks for spoiling the plot, Dude.
Perfect script and acting. One can feel the repressed passion. So English.

I have driven past the wild and windy moors a few times and can see why it inspired the book and the film.
