Blackpool Tramway Action (17th July 2011)

During a wild (wet and windy) day in Blackpool, I was in the popular Lancashire seaside town to do a spot of bashing on the world famous tramway. With the new order of trams set to dominate the Starr Gate to Fleetwood Ferry route from 2012 onwards, it was imperative that a bash had to be done on some of the old fleet while it was still possible to do so.

We start at Pleasure Beach where several double deckers arrive, including:

1) Modified 'Jubilee' 762

2) Modified 'Millenium 718 (with the bulging new doors)

3) Non-modifed 'Balloon' 715 (which we have a ride on as far as Bispham Station)

4) Twin-car single deckers 672+682 (passing 715 near Blackpool Tower, during what may be their final Summer season before the new trams take over)

5) Modified 'Balloon' 723 (which takes us from Bispham Station to Little Bispham)

6) Modified 'Millenium' 707


In Fleetwood (where the annual Tram Sunday event was being held after it's break in 2010), non-modified 'Balloon' 710 makes an appearance on the back of a low loader; representing what could possibly be the final hurrah for the old Blackpool trams in Fleetwood. She is then driven away from Fleetwood Ferry; whether she will be preserved or scrapped, has yet to be seen...

so sade they cant keep all the old fleet it just a terble crime they may keep some but it just whant be the same anymore and proble in the fucher they will look bk and think what a mistake as the new one will be scraped just leke so called buses that were mad e to replace trams

@screammac I agree with you on the fact that the character of the old tramway will fade, but it's high time that Blackpool moved on; the tramway has been pleading for a revamp for a long time, and now it's coming. Thanks for commenting.

that was the Sunday Leigh played Halifax & won in Blackpool yes I was there that with rest of the family

@robmasterman Thanks Bob. Even the weather failed to stop me recording the old order on Blackpool's tramway system, before it is all swept away by the new breed of trams from 2012 onwards.

@REGWARNE12 As I said to one YouTuber earlier on, it's a typical English Summer! What else do you expect? LOL And fingers crossed that 710 will go on to a happier retirement instead of dying at the hands of the scrapman... Cheers for commenting!
