Syd Barrett's Cambridge suburban folktale from the 1967 'Piper at the Gates of Dawn' album (which I bought, in 1967, and still have) rendered unlistenable with the aid of my office iMac and jazz-nylon Lowden. This is the party piece I sometimes play at our folk club to silence kids who ask for some Pink Floyd, expecting the obvious stuff and often having no idea about the REAL Floyd material...

  • 1967, when I first heard the song. Care to provide your alternative version of 'truth'?

  • whats the chain gang verse about?and the two to know? adn the why cant you see

  • @felipepumas - Arnold Layne was a legendary Cambridge psychologically disturbed washing line thief - Syd Barrett was writing about a man who stole women's underwear from washing lines, for purposes of self-gratification (while wearing it). That should help you understand all the words. Sent to prison for it. 'Chain gang' is poetic licence, there are no chain gangs in British prisons! I don't think there was one real Arnold Layne, but a few undie-sirables.

  • Which particular tracks? There are three or four tracks on Emerant Lea that I can't do at all now (they would need a lot of practice - and maybe experimenting with instruments and strings for the same response), and some which I play regularly and work fine on many different guitars.

  • Playing guitar in an office chair with arms (since removed) while staring into, and being lit by, a 24 inch iMac screen sort of helps the effect. I am only slightly mad when seen in a normal light.

  • Brilliant mate. Just Brilliant.

  • Nice. Like the drama as well. Thanks.

  • I enjoyed this better than the original !

  • Not too shabby. You reminded me of John Lithgow alot, while I watched that lol. Kinda creepy at certain parts in the tune. But otherwise, the audio part was pretty

    good ;)

  • @felipepumas - "To know" has been used to denote "carnal knowledge," which is having a sexual encounter. Pretty cool usage in the song, don't you agree? A very clever song on all levels.

  • Do you have a strange hobby?

  • cool, scary eyes though

  • Nice job!

  • from one Dave Kilpatrick to another, Well done!

  • I really enjoyed this...Would you be willing to do a version of "Mathilda Mother", "Julia Dream"? and perhaps "The Gnome" ? Thanks...
