The Great Bob Gibson pitched his first and only no-hitter against the Pittsburgh Pirates on August 14, 1971 at Pittsburgh's Three Rivers Stadium. This is the original call by the longtime radio voice of the Pirates, the late Bob Prince.

  • living in buffalo...as a "cardinal fan....my cousin...a pirate fan....we planned that someday when we were older we would drive to pittsburgh for a game.and what a game!!

  • @elvispresley718 go peoria

  • Notice how many times Prince, who was the biggest Buccos fan, and knowing the long-time superstition that an announcer saying "no-hitter"on the air jinxs the pitcher, says no-hitter over and over in the hopes that Stargell would get a hit and his beloved Pirates would not be no-hit. I loved listening to Bob Prince call the Bucco games in the 70's. He was the best!

  • I'd heard Jack Buck's call of this for Cardinals radio, but never Bob Prince's. Cool stuff, thank you for sharing.

  • i remember coming home that night and the announcer on wmbd in peoria said that gibson ahd pitched a nono
