As many as 15 million Americans experience Social Anxiety - the feeling of overwhelming stress, fear, and even panic in certain situations. You are not alone! This video offers some general information about Social Anxiety and its treatment.
More suggestions:
-- Pace yourself. Whenever possible, allow yourself some downtime to recover in between events you find stressful.
-- Question the thoughts that come with anxiety. Are they true? If not, what more realistic and positive thought can you replace them with?
-- In stressful situations, practice deep breathing, relax your muscles, and use positive self-talk to help you through.
-- Affirmations can include "I can do this." "I am relaxed and confident." "I am safe here." "I am comfortable around other people." etc.
-- Avoid self-medicating with alcohol or drugs. Find positive, healthy ways to increase your comfort level and decrease your anxiety.
Social anxiety is awful, my husband has it. I am the opposite. Your video is so on point, describes him to a tee. When we go off to a gathering, I either have to sit on top of him or by him, and it really is difficult for me. But, it is also hard to watch him. He has a hearing issue that I addressed with a hearing aid for him for Christmas, so I am wondering how that will help. Great video.
