There is no respect if you use a sample to realize it. It be disrespect if you just fuck up the song using that sample that doesn't bring out its harmony with the song you trying to use it in. I think most mainstream hip-hop that samples old songs basically is a spit in the face cuz its mostly just a one dimensional beat/tune thats repetitive and doesn't evolve as the song goes on. In Nujabes case, most of his songs if not all of them that he made himself changes as the song plays.

@saintjasin In some aspects sampling itself is disrespecting the original artist even if you dont tamper with the sample very much.
Thats just how hip hop producers create, I highly doubt anyone sampled anything with the sole intention of disrespect, especially nujabes.
