Penny Wong and Dr Eco Freako on Climate Change

Dr Eco Freako talking to Penny Wong, Australian Minister for Water and Climate Change says:

Current data indicates that we need a 40% cut in greenhouse gases by 2020 and 90% by 2050 if we are to save the planet from climate change. But Penny Wong and her government is only offering a 5% cut by 2020.

She plans to keep digging up coal, burning it and pumping out the poisonous greenhouse gases into the atmosphere well into this century - even though it is causing climate change, drought and extinction - and she is supposed to be protecting your water supplies.

But she wants you to think she is working really hard to stop climate change and has a public relations department working on an advertising campaign. Its a charade.

She is putting a lot of faith in technology that will capture the CO2 and store it underground. But the research is slow and it wont work. It is just wasting time and the CO2 you put in the ground may one day come back and bite your children in the bum.

We need to fix the climate issue but remember climate change is a symptom of a much bigger problem and that is an economic system based on continued growth and consumption of resources.

We need some growth good growth - and that includes growth in the use of services, and local, small-scale businesses and industries that use recycled materials and renewable energy.

But Penny Wong doesnt seem to understand sustainability. Maybe its because she gets lots of money from the corporations for her election campaign and a cushy job as an executive when she retires.
