Daniele Roccato double bass Solo Concert at Bass'2008 in Paris 30th October 2008. CNSMDP. Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. Salle Orgue. http://www.danieleroccato.com/
Nice playing, nice tone! I wonder about the interpretation though; it doesn't seem very baroque, everything seems rather disjointed. Regardless, well executed!
well i can say for myself personally what sitting does is what many others here have already eluded to, and that is to make things easier. the fact that no part of your body has to be strained to hold the bass in the correct position frees up movement and as well it locks the bass in a position where you arent losing the feel of a note on the fretboard. if you are sitting it gives you consistency of hand positions and allows you to feel where a note is on the fretboard and come right back to it
Many bassists sit down. Most I've seen. It makes many things easier because balancing the bass isn't a problem anymore. It makes long rehearsals less painful, too.
His way is very cello-like and unusual for bassists, but it definitely seems to work for him.
