  • can yo please tell me what is the purpose of Vacuum Bagging? Is it to suck the excess resin out of the CF piece?

    Greetings from Iran

  • Hi Disndat11,

There are to reasons to use a vacuum bag when using wet layup.

Pressing the fiber into the core. A 24" vacuum will create about 14 pound per sq. inch pressure on the laminate.

And also the peel ply and bleeder draw off excess resin.

Also the peel ply leaves a "toothed" finish that is ready for bonding.

  • do you have to leave the vacuum pump running until set?

  • Yes, I start out at 26" of vacuum until the resin starts to gel then back it off to 18" and let it cure over night. For my bigger projects I will tent the tool and heat it to 140 deg. F which will cause the part to cure more quickly. But only after letting the vacuum draw off all the voids.
