King Tim III - Fatback (old school hiphop / hip hop / rap) 1979

Although The Sugarhill Rap was the first hiphop record to hit the charts worldwide, this obscure record here recorded by rapper King Tim III and the Fatback Band was released before that and is in fact the first hiphop record ever released.

  • Of course I know that one too, but if I remember correctly Casper's Groovy Ghost Show is from 1980. Anyway definitely not 1978! Still a great song though.

  • everybody in hip hop bow down! this is where it started!

  • Yes, I remember this song in the summer of 1979 2 months before Rapper's Delight was around. There was this dance called the Punk, and we used to do it to this song. Also, when the CNE in Toronto opened, they had an outside roller skating area and this song was one of the songs we did the "rubber legs" to. The hard rockers loved this song too because it was good to skate to, and all this was happening before Rapper's Delight was out. This is real classic street Funk.

  • NOPE Wrong... I believe there were a few artist locally that had some pressings of rap records made but not like this or Sugarhill.

What I do know is that West Philly's Lady B's To Da Beat Ya'll Came out that Spring of '79

  • It goes further back than this one, mate. 'Here comes the Judge'- Pigmeat Markam.

  • this may be the first rap RECORDED. but kool herc had already made hip hop before this came out thanks to the breakbeat

    bow down

  • this was the first recording, but in no way did it signal the beginning of hip hop. Hip hop (music, dance, art) had been around since 72. This was actually the first existence of recorded RAP on wax tho.. bravo...

  • SALUTE!!!
