  • While some might snicker at the calls, they were actually a reference to the station founder, Connie B. Gay.

  • Definitive response. Connie B Gay (a man from Lizard Lick NC) brought the stations WGAY and WQMR because of the Call letters. He Bought the AM station and Paid $1 for the FM station. Later they reversed the call letters and made WGAY the FM station. I worked there from 1969 to 1993. I miss you Bob

  • @Superbook4Eva A man? All the more interesting.

  • @Attmay Connie B. Gay was a man, not a woman.

The AM station had earlier had the calls WQMR ("Washington's Quality Music Radio").

  • @WhatsAYak Her name is a complete sentence as well as a double entendre.

  • VSN maybe you should learn the history of the station before you go on a rampage.

  • GAY, callsign FAIL!

  • I remember WGAY Beautiful Music but never listened to it much when I lived in the Washington, D.C. from 1973 to 1979.
