  • how comes it was short on reverse thurst when landed id would have had gine a least 10 seconds LONGER

  • @skodas The TR's have to be at reverse idle by 60kts to reduce the risk of damage by self induced FOD

  • Does anyone know why the sound of the C5 is so unique? I could be blindfolded and know an aircraft either departing or landing was a C5 just based on the sound.

  • @hoopsheavenpa - It has to do with the TF-39's design. It was the first generation high bypass engine. To reduce the weight of the fan disk, they manufactured voids in the fan blades, these voids create the unique sound...

  • It may seem like a long time time for the T/R's to actuate, but you have to remember the pilots have to fly the nose to the RWY, actuate the T/R, wait for the cowls to traverse, get symmetric indications, input the throttles for reverse and finally, the motors have to spool up... So in short, that is as fast as you will get reverse thrust in the C-5... Sorry to disappoint.

  • I loove that sound... Its a really creepy whine but it suits the look of the plane so well.. Awesome Plane, good video too man.

  • the C5M upgrades are using commercially available CF6 for the re engining program along with upgraded avionics. The sound of the TF39 is gone and that sucks but the increase in thrust adds about a third more power for something like 35% faster climb. The C5M made several time to climb world records in its first few months of service they are crazy bad. I guess things have to change so I say farewell to the sound of the TF39 and hello to the worlds premier heavy lifter all over again.

  • @hoopsheavenpa something with the govt restricting the use of those engines to only military airplanes, no commercial jets can use them, so the govt bought them all up for cheap. No other jets use them so it's unique. I may be thinking of awacts though

  • @cpknier Thanks! Love that sound! Your explanation definitely makes sense.

  • Simply amazing!

  • what a big bird, that thing is just amazing
