NEW YORK , NY -- There is a powerful movement underway for open video standards for the Web. The biggest implementation will be seen very soon on Wikipedia where you will watch videos in an open source video application called Ogg Theora. The imminent release of Firefox 3.5 will come with HTML 5, which allows video to be embedded into the Web page without the need for plug-in's.
Andy Plesser, Executive Producer
I hope with all this attention being placed on open source codecs like theora I hope that there will be much more technical improvements made in them especially theora which is not up to par in terms of performance. Long live open source!

Christopher, I understand that the intension was to become part of the W3C's HTML 5 standard. However it was rejected as part of the standard. So to say that it's going to be built into browsers is entirely misleading, it's going to be/already built into any browser that wants to support it, but certainly not all browsers.

Oh great another video codec that I don't need, except this one's being forced on us with religious zeal. How about just using one that is already in use. Not one that you have to dance around the fact that it's not yet ready for prime time.
Ogg Theroa I wish as much success as Ogg Vorbis.
