The Sandhill Crane family in Homer, Alaska is back together and recovered from the attack by 2 loose dogs. Apparently there were no injuries. They were just shaken up, ruffled, and separated. If the dogs had not been chased off by Ed Bailey, Kachemak Crane Watch founder, the outcome would likely have been different. He was checking to see where they were roosting and happened upon the dogs as the attack began. In this video the cranes, preen, feed, and watch an eagle pass overhead. In the afternoon, a juvenile bald eagle dove on the four and was repulsed by the male who spread his wings and lunged. Sandhill cranes have a tough job raising their young, so people can do their part by keeping their beloved dogs safely home.
