Prof. Surinder Singh is the Head, Raj Academy of Asian Music. He is perhaps the most active figure in Sikh Music circles today, working to infuse traditions of Gurmat Sangeet in Sikh youth through education. As a result of his efforts along with the dedicated volunteers he inspires, more young people are keenly involved in learning to perform Kirtan using traditional stringed instruments. He has worked hard trying to establish Sikh music as a prominent art among the Sikhs and in academic circles both in the UK and abroad. As a result, Raj Academy became the first institution in the U.K. to provide a nationally recognized BMus Degree in colaboration with Thames Valley University in Indian music. Raj Academy Of Asian Music is the largest and most comprehensive institute of Indian music in the United Kingdom. It provides the highest quality education and training.

  • a warning was issued to you and shivling, therefore please refrain from using patronising tone and language. Who exactly do you think you are to come onto my channel and start ordering me what to do? Ive been reading your posts for the past week and you go on as if your some expert slandering the work of others, when in reality you should ask what exactly have u done for this dying art to combat inferior kirtanis? If you want to challenge Prof. Surinder Singh, challenge him on his medium, music.

  • Otherwise you nothing but a coward who sits behind a computer screen and acts as an internet warrior. You go on saying this is not Gurmat Sangeet, due to musical technicalities, but then I dont see you on Bhai Sahib Bhai Baldeep Singh Ji's video where Bhai Sahib Ji sings a shabad of Raag Asa in Bageshwari, where were you then?

This channel is a non biased channel and has no affiliation with with any jatha or institution, so whether it be Surinder Singh or Bibi Navideta Kaur any posts with

  • slanderous and malicious intent will not be tolerated, if you can do better show it other wise please keep your forked tongue behind your fangs.

This is a dying art which must be revived, hence any contribution is good contribution.

And another thing if your going to talk, please talk in proper Punjabi not some pendu dialect which no one can relate to or understand. Learn some humility as Satguru Nanak Dev Ji Sachay Patshah says "Hum Nahi Chunge Burah Nahi Koi"

  • There's another issue we need to address. If, as Prof Singh claims, his rendition is raga based, we need to to know in which way is his understanding of these ragas headed. What for instance is his pakar of what he claims is Raag Tukhari? Same applies to the rest of his repertoire. It is unfortunately true that he isn't able to stick to the ragas he claims to be singing. BBS, on the other hand, follows Bageshwari with canonical exactitude. Nivedita ji too remains close to the classical spirit.

  • I think it'ld be in the fitness of things to address the issue of what you term as a 'dying art'. If the Prof has an enrolled list of 800 students - & this is but one centre where the 'dying art' is taught - then the art whose life you are so worried about is hardly 'dying'. But a 'revival' of the same isn't possible if one is merely adding the sculpted wooden image of a peacock at the base of a dilruba & - eureka - calling it a taus. Doubts raised about such claims cannot be brushed aside.
