@Cheximus You're right. Tender Surrender is a nice song. I stand corrected. I also like Vai's song, "Brandos Costumes (Gentle Ways). Vai can write musical scores too. He's extremely talented. Doesn't Batio seem like a kid almost? Like he hasn't matured. Still playing soulless shredding for the sake of shredding. I agree with lymbo. I didn't like this music at first, but I grew to like it. I certainly respect his playing, as any guitarist should, but some of the notes he hits are really emotional for me. Yes, often he does play far too many notes in a fill, but I love the way he bends the notes. Not sure how you can say Vai has no feeling - that's just pure bullshit. Listen or watch Tender Surrender.

@lostinlymbo4 You are quite correct regarding this man's technical abilities. He was also an accomplished music student.

Personally, I feel that he's nothing more than a Vegas act. That certainly pays the bills, and is further than most will go. However, his music has no mojo. I stand by my opinion. It's a bunch of technical gymnastics.

The whole "shredder" thing is very boring. Is Gilmore boring? No. When I hear this guy, it reminds me of Guitar Center on Saturday afternoon. ;-)

@MrTommySullivan How can someone that has spent so much time, dedication and discipline to master an instrument to his capacity possibly be soulless? As Shakespeare is to English, Batio is to guitar. Elegant. I'd say Randy is more like Poe - just to continue the metaphor. Saying he's soulless is a reflection of a lack of cultured taste - which can be corrected with years of practice. Guitar, specifically. But, for devils advocate, he writes music for musicians, I would say

I hate this guy. He is as cold as ice. No emotion, just fluff. The comments calling this guy a "god" are way off. This guy - much like Vai, is only capable of good technique, but their music has no feeling or substance. You want soul and emotion? Listen to someone like Trower or Rhoads. This guy SUCKS and he wears a wig. I would not even want him to play at a wedding.
