The previous week, Longview saw a seven season district winning streak come to an end in the 4th quarter after holding the Stallions of North Mesquite at large. Having to rebound about a loss this late in the season was something new to these Lobos who hadn't been in a must win situation since 2003. In 2003, Longview had to beat John Tyler in the 3rd to last game of the season to clinch a spot in the UIL playoffs.
This season...in the 2nd to last game in the regular season...the Tyler Lee Red Raiders were all that stood in their way. The Red Raiders, who had lost the previous 7 meetings against Longview, were coming off their first win of the season that kept them alive in the playoff hunt.
In typical fashion of these two teams, it was an extremely tough and physical match up. Longview, not only looking to clinch a 10th consecutive playoff spot, was looking to keep their district championship hopes alive. And they did just that. Longview pulls it out in another close one to clinch a playoff spot and see them keep hope for a 7th straight district title alive.
