7/7: The Holy City of Kairouan - The Great Mosque

Kairouan is a Muslim holy city which ranks after Mecca and Medina as a place of pilgrimage. The Great Mosque is said to largely consist of its original building materials. In fact most of the column stems and capitals were taken from ruins of earlier-period buildings, while others were produced locally ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kairouan ). This video is made from footage I gathered on a 2 day trip in Tunisia and around 2007.
