November 6, 1978. The last Monday Night Football game played by the Colts while they were in Baltimore. From a Colts fan perspective this was a fantastic game. 60,000 fans cheering the Colts at Memorial Stadium on a cool fall evening. Jones leading the team to a comeback victory even while enduring what appeared to be another injury to his shoulder in the third quarter.
The NFL television channel has a show called Top 10, they have one episode for the top 10 gutsiest performances, Jones performance in this game should have qualified.
The 1978 Colts were snake bitten with injuries all season. The biggest injury was to Bert Jones during the final preseason game against Lions at Detriot. Jones returned against the Jets on October 15 and was injured again.
Jones returned for the second time from injury for this nationally televised game against the Redskins. Jones felt his shoulder was healing, just not strong at this point in time. He felt he could move the team. Jones starts off rusty, but eventually has a great evening in leading the Colts to victory.
This game would be Jones's only complete game of a lost season. The following week he was injured when he was hit near the sidelines while running the ball against the Seahawks. He left with a lead in that game and the Colts held on for their second consecutive victory, moving the Colts record to 5 - 6 at the time. Bert Jones did not play the remainder of the season.

@Baltimorehop Good catch! Don't know how I forgot Lyle. He was one of my favorite players...
I think Ray Oldham also played for Detroit along with Stan White and Freddie Scott.

@fin8glr ~ you can throw Lyle Blackwood in there to. He only went on to become a member of the Miami Dolphins "Killer B's" bunch on defense during the early 80's.

It's amazing how Irsay sabotaged the Colts team. Off the top of my head, he let go of so many talented players:
Lydell Mitchell
Ray Chester
Freddie Scott
Stan White
Lyle Blackwood
Joe Washington
John Dutton
All of these players were key contributors on the '75 - '77 AFC East Champions and had the Colts on the verge of becoming Super Bowl contenders.

If Bert Jones had managed to stay healthy! Wow. What an incredible talent. One of the best to ever play the game. He was Elway before Elway.

I was at this game! I sat in the old wooden bleachers in the open end of old Memorial Stadium. As I recall it was a real shootout that the Colts managed to win with Bert Jones throwing a winning TD.
