Way back in 1990.....me and Overton Loyd were commissioned to create and visually develop an animated primetime series based on a character Arsenio Hall had created as an alter ego,his mad, jealous brother Chunky-A.
Arsenio had recorded a rap album, and even had a music video that featured the group "Cameo".

Overton had worked with Producer/Booker Kim Swann on "Win,Lose,or Draw",and I had worked with Rodney Dangerfield on the ground floor development of his animated feature project "Rover Dangerfield",and I had a lot of experience in developing movies and animated projects.

The collaboration between me and Overton was great,I learned a lot from him,and my goal for this entire project was to feature the artistic stylings of Overton Loyd in an animated form.Arsenio was down with the funk,so ...I believe the three of us could have made a hit cartoon,but,instead,...we all learned about the hardcore reality of politics in the TV business, and the true meaning of "creative control",which ultimately none of us had.

I am making this availible now for it's historical value, and I like Overton Loyd artwork:http://www.overvision.com/

At this point,I look back at this time period fondly.I worked with interesting artist and writers, and this was the time when I had a great manager named Harriett Sternberg, who looked out for my interest at a level that no other agent specialising in the animation business ever has.The deal she made for my company ,involved partial ownership of our character designs,as well as credit for writing.I created the 'Spud Flea" character, and I was able to get into the WGA as a writer, and I qualified for their insurance plan!Arsenio created the concepts for the majority of the cast,I did the rest.
Animation agents nowadays are afraid to negotiate profit participation in character designs now,...so we do not get them. Most artist working today do not realise you should not do visual development just for "work-for-hire" compensation.
I guess that's what you call progress?

This piece features the voices of Esther Rolle,David Alan Grier, and Rosie Perez, among others.

(The quality for this piece may be low,due to the lack of quality in the source material.)

...Brice productions 20 years strong!!!!

  • Google him..he's still doing gigs in show business.

  • @Jerrybrice Hey J, thanks for keeping all our hard work alive. I loved storyboarding on this project, wished it went farther then it did. Still have cds of jimmy Castor Bunch and Paliament featuring Overton's great album cover art. We should get together some time. Look me up. - Don

  • @dmanuel25 ...thanks Don!I always tell Larry Huston how much I enjoyed working with you guys at Marvel...even though I had a little hassle with the producers.I know that if that hassle had not occurred, we would have made a groundbreaking hit with this project...but life worked out fine for me.

You know that writer Greg Antonucci is now an actor, and has been getting type cast as an Italian mobster in the "Sopranos" and "Boardwalk Empire'...believe it or not.He definitely gangsterized this one.

  • Is that Cree Summers playing the voice of Marcie?

  • Yes that is Cree Summers doing that v.o.

  • Is that Esther Rolle (Florida Evans) doing the voice for Gran?

  • Yes, that is the late, great, Esthe Rolle.
