Puggsy is one of the best games on the megadrive, fantastic soundtrack, but also unmatching gameplay with good use of physics...

The Poets 1 from Streets of Rage 3 one of the few bright spots in a huge let down of a soundtrack.

Sakimoto was the man next to yuzo korshiro. Sakimoto did devilisn, verytex,Captain america and the avengers AND midnight resistance.
Great music indeed!
I've always liked Truxton's 1st level BGM......really sounds like something that came out in 1989. Pardon if I'm coming off as corny, but it really harkens back to the early days of the Genesis, quite a while before Sonic came into the scene, when it faced uncertainty as a competitor to the juggernaut that was Nintendo, back when it was an underdog fighting and scratching its way to the top. Truxton's 1st level BGM really embodies this. YEAH! *fist pump, pelvic thrust*

hehe, no I hear ya. I never played Truxton back in the day but I did own a MD almost since day one and I agree, there's something special about the pre-sonic era of games. It's a good thing it got into the mainstream though because the rough competition led to some awesome games on all 16-bit platforms.

Another distinctive quality about the music in early Genesis games is how they almost exclusively blasted FM synth on all cylinders, rarely using the PSG channels. "Truxton", "Golden Axe" & "Ghouls 'N Ghosts" are examples of this. Not just that, but because of this the compositions seem "empty", as if they're lacking the backing instruments that make a vidja game song "full". Still, pretty memorable. I envy those who were amongst the first Genny owners in '89, must've felt great!

It was distinct alright, but I much prefer to have the full experience with FM, PCM & PSG triple-blasting it together while making the MD sweat. All I remember from those early days (I was 4 in '89) was being scared and/or in awe of the games, and frustrated that I couldn't beat any of them.
