Daegeum is a large bamboo transverse flute used in traditional Korean music. and Sanjo (literally, scattered melodies) is a solo genre and one of the most advanced forms in Korean music. It begins slowly and proceeds to a faster tempo and is flexible for improvisations in that the performer can spontaneously create melodies within a prescribed form. Because sanjo requires brilliant technique and musical capacity, this genre is often used as a gauge for a performer's musical talent. Sanjo has been developed for various instruments, and presently there are sanjo for geomungo (six-stringed zither), gayageum (twelve-stringed zither), daegeum (bamboo flute), haegeum (two-stringed bowed instrument), piri (bamboo oboe), and ajaeng (bowed zither "
