Dr. Bill Johnson of Innovations Medical talks about fractionated laser resurfacing technology and which is the one you should choose for your problem. Dr. Johnson is the first physician in the DFW Metroplex to have the newest 2009 generation Fraxel Re:Store technology and the first in the United States with SmartXide Dot Therapy. In the past, laser resurfacing meant long recovery periods and pain, for good results. Today, new technologies allow physicians to treat the same skin faster, with very little downtime, and minimal pain.
In 2001, a team of Fraxel engineers, researchers and scientists pioneered a laser skin science called fractional photothermolysis. This approach to skin resurfacing, when combined with Fraxels advanced technological intelligence or SmartXide Dot Therapy, delivers efficacy and safety. For patients, that means remarkable results and minimal downtime which simply didnt exist before Fraxel.
Which fractionated laser treatment is right for you?
Fraxel and SmartXide Dot treatment safely and effectively removes years from your appearance so you get renewed skin and renewed confidence. But how do you choose the best fractionated laser treatment for your skin condition? Whats the best option for your lifestyle?
Both fractionated laser treatments use fractional technology to heal your skin from the inside out, but they have different levels of intensity. Use the chart below to see which procedure may be best for you.
Great skin shouldn't be a full-time job
You want to protect it, and you know that treating the first signs of aging now will pay off later. But, frankly, you dont have the luxury of time for complex procedures and long recoveries. Fraxel Re:Store is the perfect option for the patient that wants great looking skin now and in the future, but doesn't want to take off work to do it.
Fraxel Re:store treatment was designed to fit your lifestyle by rejuvenating your skin safely, effectively and quickly. So you can get a treatment, and immediately return to work or other activities. By stimulating the growth of new collagen from the inside out, Fraxel Re:store and SmartXide Dot Therapy can help eliminate dark spots and actually prevent fine lines from appearing.
I have a couple minor marks on my face and I seen a dr who does Fraxel. He said I wouldn't even see them when he got done. I had multiple microdermabrasion treatments that helped but the aesthitician said my scars were not that noticeable, but they bother me.

@sms8668 Hello Scott,
Microderm is good for smoothening out the scars, but it will never remove them. The main reason is due to the collagen fibers being fractured. If you were to look at your skin in layers, collagen would be the 3rd layer. Microderm only penetrates through the 1st.

Fraxel would be a good option for you, but it depends on what kind of skin tone you have. Lighter skin types can use both CO2 fractionated lasers, and Fraxel Restore (or Fraxel Dual). Darker skin, can ONLY use Fraxel Restore (Dual). If you have lighter skin, you may find your results better if you can use a CO2 fractionated version. It's the strongest on the market. Fraxel makes one, there is also mixto, and dot therapy.

The downside is that it's about 1 week of downtime, and with scars, you still will need to do more than 1 treatment. Fraxel Restore is automatically 4 treatments. Docs will all have different treatment times, but in general this is what you need to know. It takes the human body about 4 weeks to regrow collage after controlled damage. We call this process collage denaturing. The process allows doctors to damage existing collage to fix issues like loose skin, wrinkles, scars, cellulite, etc.

During these 4 weeks, the body absorbs the damages collagen and replaces it with thicker, more elastic collagen. We also know from studies that this new collagen will respond much better to treatments. This is why you want to give it another 4 weeks to mature before hitting it again with another treatment.
