We are not selling any provider as a role model.

Acupuncturist building a practice off doctor referrals should know how this issue affects their relationship with the referring doctor and their practice. In fairness to Dr. Ehrlich this clip in not scripted and if we gave him a 2nd take I am sure he would have polished up his answer.

If a patient walks into your clinic as a self referral then you are free to treat as you like. The idea of a direct referral from a doctor is to treat what the patient has been referred for. The doctor directing care will need to isolate which modality is working so all treating providers are on the same page.

  • Typical of a chiropractor. I was also told by them to schedule routine clinic visits and to not fix people too quickly or else it would hurt my practice. This is sage advice for one quack to tell another. The problem is that there are real Chinese medicine doctors, "not acupuncturists" and many are coming from China will wealthy investors to back them. The jig is up and you will either have to rise to the occasion or find another job.

  • He doesn't want the acu to treat the area of concern that HE is treating with chiro? The patient's goal should always be the primary concern. These modalities work beautifully together, hence "integrative medicine". It's sad to see many chiros and md's wanting to take sole credit for the patient's recovery. Why not address it in each of our specialized ways and put the patient's care before our own egos? A big reason why referrals are so hard to get is because many fear competition. Sad.

  • I wouldn't want patients from this guy, he would be dictating how I would treat the patient. The whole idea of a referral is to treat what the other person can not.

  • dude, straighten your tie. "my patients will do what I say". what a creep. is the role model you're selling?
