Lautering the grains, and sanitizing the shirron plate chiller with iodophore solution. Having a plate chiller is a cool brewing tool, but requires more attention than an immersion chiller. After each brew day, the chiller is back flushed with water, hot PBW, and then sanitized for storage. Prior to chilling the wort, all that is needed is a quick sanitization rinse.

the cheapest and easiest way i have found with my plate chiller (i have the same one although branded differently) to sanitize is to pump the boiling wort through the chiller without any water in the cold side for about 10-15 mins of the boil.. the only problem i have found it hops and trub blocking it. but you get that problem anyway when you are chilling

@HomeDistiller I have tried that method a few times, sanitized the chiller perfectly but i didnt like the way it gunked up my chiller. Now i sanitize with iodopher just like in this video, but incorprate a vigorous whirlpool at the end of the biol with 15 min rest. The amount of hop residue and protein break is greatly reduced in my chiller and it makes cleaning the chiller much quicker. The whirlpool only works if you use hop pellets though!

@chino112582 i use hop bags as i found my chiller clogged up if to much hops got through, so i don't get to much gunk with the hop bags
