hey Katherine why don't you just fuck off and make your own latin course rather than insult the hard work of others?
You could have sent a friendly message informing the author of the errors in pronunciation, but no - you make public post accusing the author of "simply choosing to disregard the usual standard". Perhaps there is a different explanation. perhaps they 'simply' made a mistake, and nobody needs an agressive know-it-all bitch like you to put them down for it.

@Halljand well yes we can get a feel for how it is, but I was talking about how a lot of people are giving this guy no credit for trying

@Konatablob From history we know how the words are to be pronounced. Also, the italian language is very similar to latin. Italian is kind of like a modern latin.

This brings back memories from highschool. I am however surprised that after 3 years of not being in a latin course that I was able to read that story before the lesson began. I like how you made this though, very informative for the people who have no knowledge whatsoever! Nice work :)

I used that book in high school.

Is there really a good pronunciation or not? It is a dead language, its not like we can just ask Julius Cesar how he spoke the language

can anyone tell me what that address at the bottom is? i cant get it right -.-

I hope you are still reading these comments. I applaud you for your work.
I was wondering if the formatting of your video (on youtube) reflects a separate program that you are taking a screenshot from. It is very interesting.

I"m Canadian, I took 5 years of high school Latin and 4 more years in University as well as 2 years of Medieval Latin. The pronunciation is off a bit sometimes to my Canadian ear, but not enough to complain about. This is wonderful nostalgia for me, having started in the CLC in grade 9: and these videos can actually teach people Latin from the beginning, so there will be no complaints from me! Thank you for posting all your Latin videos!

@DimitryMiller the way you answer does not seem any better...

You read words such as seDET, LaboRAT, scriBIT, dorMIT, laTRAT, surGIT,and claMAT. Every text I have consulted thus far states that Latin words do NOT accent the last syllable. Do you disagree with the standard rules for pronouncing classical Latin for a particular reason or are you simply choosing to disregard the usual standard. It is also my understanding that Latin Rs were rolled.

Hi Katherine. What you are looking at here is a very early video. I learnt Latin from books, rather than a teacher, so I never learned to pronounce words correctly. Since I've started posting I've had a lot of good feedback about pronunciation and made a real effort to improve - it is ongoing - I am far from perfect. My news series - Learning Latin with Virgil - is, I think, an improvement. Cheers.
