Moma passed away one month ago today and when I was a little girl sang this song to me, I would ask her over and over and she would do it. As she was dying i sang it to her, she was born March 24, 1931 in Mayking, Letcher County, Kentucky.
this song was written by Judge Joseph Cornett of Letcher County Kentucky in the late 1800's or early 1900's. I first heard in when the Iron Mountain String Band
Performed it on the Jane Fonda movie,
THE DOLLMAKER. It is a very captivating song. I performed it at a funeral for a 4 year old boy back in 2000 whose funeral I had to preach. The family was very touched.
a very pretty song and this band does it very good

Good Lord! All the band is very good, but I'm partial to the banjo player... she has a darn solid touch, and a great tone! Real real good stuff!
