Not everything can be perfect and dreams don't always come true. When people want try to stand in your way, when people want to test your faith, that's when you must be your strongest.

Right as Carolina said those words, my mind went into a frenzy. What? Kevin had a son? But that couldn't be. How could Kevin be a father? No, this couldn't be. There had to be some other explanation for all of us. I looked at Carolina and she was waiting for me to listen.
"Maybe you should. What's going on? How can that be Kevin's son?"
"Look, when Kevin and I used to see each other, well, we kinda..."
"No, I knew that. But you were pregnant? You were never pregnant."
"Yes, I was. About a week before Kevin died, I figured out that I was pregnant. I was so nervous about telling him. He was the Prince. How was I going to tell him that he was going to be a father? But then, he brought up his plan of eloping. It was perfect so I went with him. I just never expected that..." She broke down.
"Did you tell him?"
"No, I didn't! I never even told him he was going to be a father. He never even knew. Oh, god." She started sobbing and I felt so sad for her. She looked down at the little boy and ran her fingers through his small curls. He turned in my direction. He looked just like Kevin. The light hazel eyes, the brown curly hair, everything... it was his son.
"I'm an uncle?"
She looked up at me. "Yes, you are. Would you like to hold your nephew?" I nodded. "Kevin, honey, that's your Uncle Joseph. Go say hi."
The little boy walked over to me and waved. I lifted him up onto my lap. "Hi, Uncle Joseph." He was so cute, so innocent. Tears fell down my cheeks and I hugged my nephew tight. This was Kevin's son. He was still alive in some way. My brother had a son. I had a nephew! I was very happy and yet, still so sad. I wish Kevin could see his little boy.
"Kevin always told me he wanted children. He would have made a wonderful father."
"Yeah, he would. I still can't believe this." I felt a hand on my arm and turned to see Abigail with tears staining her face. I had almost forgotten she was here. "It's my nephew," I whispered to her.
She leaned over and put her arm across her back and put her head on my shoulder. "You have a beautiful nephew."
"I know."
Abigail and I spent the day with Carolina and her son, my nephew. It felt nice to hear that. I really wish Kevin was still here. He would be more than excited to know that he has a son. He had told me about wanting to have a family. And now that he had one, he didn't even know about it.
After spending about six hours here, Abigail and I finally dismissed ourselves to the castle. But before we left, Carolina pulled me aside. "That girl seems really nice."
"She is."
"I saw the ring, Joseph. Are you planning on marrying her?"
"Yes, I am."
"And does she know about the law?"
"No, I haven't told her."
"What are you waiting for? It's a crucial piece of information. She needs to know. Have you told your parents yet?"
"They know. They don't like it. Abigail keeps asking about the law but I'm scared to tell her."
"Tell her soon. I hope you do get married though, unlike Kevin and I. I'm sure you'll be happy together."
"Thank you."
Abigail and I rode back to the castle and we went up to my room. She convinced me to eat something and I agreed but only if she fed me. She was happy to do it. We laughed and kissed all night. Everything was perfect. But that guilty feeling was telling me to mention the law. She had to know.
I woke up the next morning and slipped out of bed, being careful not to wake my beautiful Abigail. I went downstairs and saw that my father was alone. This was the perfect time to talk to him about this marriage. He had never been mean to Abigail so why was he against us? But it was obviously about the law.
"Father, can we talk?"
"Of course, son. About what?"
"Abigail and the fact that I am determined to marry her."
"Joseph, why would you do this? You know the law."
"Yes, I do. And I don't care. I love her. I want to marry her."
"Son, please don't do this."
"You never had any trouble with Abigail before. You know she's nice and sweet and beautiful. She's perfect. Why can't I just marry her?"
"Because of the law."
"I know that law and I'll obey it."
"You can't do this, Joseph. Do you really want to do this for that girl? It's just a girl."
"It's not just a girl. It's Abigail."
"Son, I don't care if you want to have the girl. Have her. But I don't want you to marry her. Marry someone else."
"I won't marry anyone but Abigail. Why can't I just marry her?"
"Because the second you do, you lose the kingdom and that is not okay."
He was right. That was the law. If the Prince chooses to marry someone who isn't "fit," he gives up all the rights to the crown. I wouldn't be Prince anymore. I would never be King. I would have to leave the castle. That's the price I had to pay to marry Abigail.

Hmm... Well first of all, I love Kevin and Carolina. I feel so bad that Kevin *Joe's brother, obviously* had to pass away :(
But yeah, that law is... Retarded. But isn't there another law that says he CAN? And another thing, I thought Joe didn't want to be King? Oh yeah, what softballchick2197 said, if Joe's dad is King can't he just change the law? And why would he have to leave the castle? Who WOULD the crown go to? So many questions... Love you!

That is the law that says he can. He can marry Abigail as long as he gives up being royal. And he has to leave the castle since he has no purpose being there anymore. He's not a royal.
