Holden has gone back to the future, restoring its very first concept car -- the 1969 Holden Hurricane.

The futuristic research vehicle described as an experiment "to study design trend, propulsion systems and other long range developments" has been restored to its former glory as a labour of love by a dedicated group of Holden designers and engineers.

Code named RD 001; the Hurricane is a mid-engined, rear-wheel drive, two-seater sports car which incorporates a remarkable array of innovative features and technology, much of it way ahead of its time.

Features include:

electronic digital instrument displays,
station-seeking radio,
automatic temperature control air conditioning,
rear vision camera
automated route finder

Holden Hurricane goes on show to the public for the first time at Motorclassica, Melbourne, October 21-23

  • Shows what Australia (and Holden) is capable of. Wish those bloody unpatriotic journo's would shut up, Holden's far from dead. The government needs a swift kick to the backside too

  • @justforlooking It's just glitter. You add it to the paint. You can buy the packs of glitter right off eBay... In any colour

  • @ObamaWorstPOTUSEver She was always intended as only a show car, and in the scheme of Australian automotive history, a priceless antique nowSomebody might make a replica, but none have done so yet. This was born in 1967

  • @MrFlyUpHigh Some production cars in Australia in the 60s had them as optional for the passengers but standard for the driver

  • @MooreMaryKay Look at the back end and you will think otherwise. This car was a 1960s show car, and this style predated what Chevrolet was doing with the Corvette at the time. This was something Holden did "out the back of the workshop". Their best show car to date was the EFIJY in 2006, which hit the US show scene and cleaned up in awards wherever it went

  • @TheKrcy 1. designed and built as a one-off prototype 2. Australian built, which automatically means RHD. 3. Holden already build cars for Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, China, America, England. You just don't hear about them because they wear different badges outside Australia

  • shit

  • BUT..will it blend?

  • @whatmarc The ignition switch is on the right side of the steering column on all the major brands in Australia and they turn clockwise. Australia did not adopt the metric system until 1974 although some manufactures used metric measurements to display engine capacity.
