My 2002 5.4L Naturally Aspirated DOHC Mustang on the dyno for the first time. With a bad intake setup and the wrong cams for the setup it made 307RWHP. The cams were made to rev to 8000RPM, but my shift point is set at 6500.

  • So are there any 99-04 cobra long tubes that bolt up without any issues to your knowledge? Do the kooks long tubes work the best for clearance issues? Thanks again for the info.

  • @ddavila29 No there are no direct swap headers, there is a guy on a couple forums that has been designing some. I am trying to work with Kooks to get a custom set for each of my 2 5.4 cars, they would not be a production set.

  • are there any modifications that have to be made when bolting on cobra long tubes and mid pipes for the 4v swap? Thanks!

  • @ddavila29 For the long-tube headers yes, short tube you can just man-handle the x-pipe to fit. With the long tubes you have a lot of issues because they cannot protrude from the head very far or they will contact the side frame rails. They will also be about 0.5-1.0" wider at the connecting point to the x-pipe.

  • what is your exhaust setup from the engine to the bumper please? Thanks for the info.

  • @ddavila29 It was FRPP shorty 99-04 Cobra headers, SLP catted X-pipe, and SLP Loud Mouth II cat-back. The car no longer has that exhaust on it, its getting Kooks long-tubes with a 3" Kooks catted X-pipe and Bassani 3" cat-back.

  • want the biggest motor in that family? put in a 6.8L v10. that'd turn some heads.

  • @Alor78 Because the 5.4 has significant amounts of torque compared to the 4.6. The 4.6 makes horsepower on the top end, but in the end the best rule is "no replacement for displacement..."

  • Your Expedition is a 2 valve vs what is installed in my car which is a 4 valve. You can do upgrades to yours and make it run better but it won't be exactly the same as what I do have.

  • @Texarmageddon

With a 4.165" stroke at 8k it F1 piston speed. Have to remember even though F1 engines spin up to 15k-17k the stroke on a F1 engine ranges from 1.5" to about 2".
