At Unicorn Centers in San Antonio, Texas, customers with intellectual development disabilities come to learn life skills and vocational training, but every afternoon, 17 members of a unique group gather to practice routines as part of the Unicorn Steppers. A brainchild of Alvin Taylor, Unicorn Centers Service Coordinator and Unicorn Steppers Director, these talented folks learn about cooperation, goal setting, peer support, commitment and camaraderie. This program increases their self esteem and pride, as they are ambassadors of the Unicorn Centers. The Unicorn Steppers perform at a variety of community events, which they love to do. The Steppers are available for performance for community events, providing awareness and inspiration of and for the intellectual disability community and the general public as well. Alvin Taylor, Unicorn Centers Service Coordinator/Steppers Director can be reached at (210) 737-3355 or ltaylor@mrmsat.org.
Unicorn Center is a community-based, church sponsored agency with a Call from God to minister to persons with intellectual developmental disabilities through the facilitation of job and life skills and integrating individuals into supported employment in the community.
