Fresno County Schools Superintendent Larry Powell said he's "retiring" for one day in August, and then, will be hired back at a significantly reduced salary.

Powell is serving his second term in office. He'll go from making roughly $250,000 to just $31,000.

  • I don't think he's retiring 'for one day'. He's simply retiring - meaning he is going to begin collecting retirement benefits from the pension system immediately while still collecting the 31k (which he has said he'll give to charity). I'm not sure what the numbers are but I believe Powell stated his pension provides him with over $200k/yr (for life).

    If any of my information is incorrect I'd be interested in knowing that.

  • @falcon02012 I agree. They don't need or deserve even half of that. They should make less than half that and the money should go to scholarships.
