A party atmosphere descended on the 5 mile Lymington branch line along with hundreds of enthusiasts, to witness the last day of Mark one EMUs. This was the end of an era, not just for the Southern Region, but the whole of the UK. Mark one coaches are now confined to charter trains. These two CIG units continued to work this line for almost 5 years after the rest of the Southern region said goodbye to the type in 2005. For the 12 29 departure to Lymington, the units were swapped, so, for a short while, both units were at Brockenhurst hence the mad dash over the bridge. The arrival shot is therefore the last time it carried passengers on Network Rail. Both unit are now both privately preserved. I was there on that day so many people weren't there. It's 6 years ago today since those 2 CIGS began work on the Lymington branch it's such a shame they had to go :(
