  • It's all that and more. Duchamp must have seen the Shiva Lingam/Yoni of India. It Is worshipped as a symbol of wholeness ( transcendence ) and has rice milk poured over it. If you "fill in" the male sex organ you see the same idea. I see "R.Mutt" as a pun on English/German "our mutter" with "The Fountain" pointing to the feminine force of creation..
