Well, keep on singing! I love serious classical music, but especially liturgical music.

Brahms did this stuff up right...and thank the gods that he didn't write for bagpipes, or else...LOL

You perform this great lied with excellent technique and great tonal beauty, as you do the other Serious Songs. AND you sing a soft and gorgeous high note at 2:55. That's the acid test for any singer attempting this piece:) --

THAT note gave me fits until it finally just "happened"...but my voice teacher kept on my case until it became habitual!!

Beautiful. Thank you., I"ve been reading the bio of Brahms by Jan Swafford and wanted to hear the Ernste LIeder. Wonderful voice!

I have a few questions. Did you receive formal voice training, and if so, where, and for how long? Your voice is gorgeous.
Second, how did you choose Brahms Vier Ernste Lieder? And how did the congregation at the church respond to the recital? Brahms had a fairly dark view of death. I appreciate his ability to look at death frankly, even though I think there was a little disconnect between his fatalistic view and the transcendence that he expressed through his music.

Still studying voice...at age 49. I kinda started late in life with this...in my early 30's. My voice teacher helped pick out the songs for me. Although we did the recital in a church, it was a non-church function....just a vocal recital from my teacher's studio. That said, I still plan on doing one or two of those songs at an appropriate time in the liturgical year, such as lent. Thank you again for your kind words....
