St Kilda vs. Sydney Swans - Matt Maguire Incident

The biggest highlight of the St Kilda vs Sydney Swans match as broadcast by Network Ten on Friday, September 16, 2005.

*Sydney Swans full-forward appears to strike St Kilda half-back Matt Maguire 100m off the play. A ball up is called.

Saints' Steven Baker then clears the ball-up, only for Sydney's Tadhg Kennelly to clean up and then kick to Ryan O'Keefe. He later kicks to Barry Hall who is booed much to the anger of the Saints fans.

*Hall then kicks a vital goal which extends Sydney's lead to two goals. Saints defenders later come up at him, including Maguire, Max Hudghton and Fraser Gehrig.

*The following Tuesday (20 September) Hall would be cleared to play in the Grand Final.

Seriously what a joke the guy got to play in the Grand Final... And the AFL thumb their noses when people questions whether some of the motives are political. Then you look at what happened with Steve Baker this season.... Tell me it wasn't used as an opportunity to push that stuff out of the game. He ended up being out for 13 weeks! You could put together a montage of incidents if you wanted to involving other players doing the same thing.... JOKE.

I know I am biased being a passionate Swans fan, but that seriously was the biggest dive of all time from Matt Maguire. Harden the fuck up, princess. The Fabio Grosso dive in the Australia v Italy World Cup soccer game a year later equalled that nonsensical dive. That should never have been sent to the tribunal.

It is one of the of the biggest shams in AFL/VFL history that Hall that was allowed to take the field for the 2005 Grand Final after this incident.
