Dr. John R. Rice
(1995-1980)

Born on December 11, 1895 in Cooke County, Texas, John Richard Rice would later be called "The 20th Century's Mightiest Pen".

He was married to Lloys McClure Cook and had six daughters, all of whom, with their husbands, went on to labor in full-time Christian service.

Although he pastored and started several churches, his primary work was as an evangelist. He was a friend and peer of Billy and Ma Sunday, Bob Jones, Sr., W. B. Riley, Homer Rodeheaver, H. A. Ironside, Robert G. Lee, Harry Rimmer and many other leaders of that era.

He authored more than 200 books and booklets circulating in excess of 60 million copies before his death, about a dozen of which were translated into at least 35 foreign languages.

In 1934 he launched THE SWORD OF THE LORD, which, by the time of his death, had become the largest independent religious weekly in the world. In 1959 he started the Voice of Revival, a 30-minute radio broadcast heard on 69 stations in 29 states, Peurto Rico and the Philippine Islands.

He died in Murfreesboro, Tennessee on December 29, 1980.

  • @margovallen This is probably where it derived from:

He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears. Proverbs 26:17

    Here's one for Ben:

Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the LORD understand all things.

    Proverbs 28:5

It never ceases to amaze me, that, the wiser they seem to be in their own eyes, the faster they resort to name calling and profanity.

  • @margovallen Undergraduate: University of Illinois. Juris Doctor: University of Michigan. And you?

  • @BenAliGtor I know nothing of the school in which you speak. Seems you're well informed.. your own Alma-Mater, is it?

  • @pjtenterprise "God himself makes Preachers[sic]."

Pure and unadulturated bullshit, you ignorant inbred trailer trash microcephalic.

  • @margovallen Wrong.

Or perhaps that's just the academic protocol where your Pastor Billy Bob studied. At the Bugtussle Alabama School of the Bible and Small Engine Repair.

  • @BenAliGtor If it's honorary, he can use the title "Dr."

And God has raised up more anointed and doctrinally sound preachers than any college has ever done. When God calls a person to preach His Word, He ordains them.. and anoints them. I've seen and heard too many preachers of whom called themselves.. and how they're ripped the Word of God into tiny pieces.. all for the money.

  • Well BenAliGtor, Let me see if I can help you out on your obvious confusion. God Himself, makes Preachers , Pastors and any other worker for His Glory. If you could ever show anywhere in the Bible where it says you MUST go to a College, University or even a Seminary ?... The Bible says study to show thy self aproved, it does not say go to college or any thing like that but study. It also say to seek the Lord and He will direct they steps, it does not say to seek a professor but seek the Lord.

  • "Dr." Rice, my posterior.

The man never even finished seminary. His purported "doctorate" is honorary, from unaccredited Bob Jones University.

One more mercenary religionist with bogus credentials.
