@riku14 it is just this place, if you go to Xiamen it is a special economic zone and much more westernized than Quanzhou. China can change greatly from one region to another.

@meckleychina I lived in this area for a year, out in the village outside of Quanzhou.

This is one of the older streets in Quanzhou. Its a perfect place to take a rickshaw ride on a nice day. Thanks for the video, it brought back lots of memories!

It is ancient city with kind and helpful people. The only problem about Quanzhou is that most of them dont speak english. The chinese they speak contains some kinds of local accents which is difficult to interpret.

@chngbh,I was in Quanzhou about 9 months ago. We saw the usual sites in town plus a day trip to Chongwu town. Quanzhou people were very friendly. My wife speaks Mandarin Chinese and we had no trouble communicating with the locals. Enjoy your trip to Quanzhou.

Right. We had just left the two pagodas, hopped in the rickshaw and are headed to the North Gate in search of the ever elusive "vegetarian" restuarant. You can read more at: meckleyearth(dot)blogspot(dot)com
Thanks for watching! -john

My impression was that most people speak both Mandarin and the local language (Fukien or other); however, some only speak their local language, but I can't even guess the percentage. And in the bigger towns/cities in Fujian Province, people have migrated in from other parts of China, bringing whatever languages they spoke in their hometown.
