  • If they put spooky music to the background instead of a laugh track when the little boy was talking it would've given this a scary feel to it.

  • The TV series was based in Maine. Cool.

  • Good point! I never thought of him! (I've had similar thoughts regarding the great beyond, or Heaven. I won't get started.)

  • @prchristman If you want to think the television version had the same ending (in the non-Viacom TV land) as the movie...where does that leave Mr. Muir in either?

  • I realized they edited out Claymore's scene where he goes on about the life and death of the Captain--and his own life, to which Martha responds "That's the saddest story I've heard since Khruschev missed Disneyland".

  • It's speculation, but likely the reason NBC ran this show its first year was what happened with BATMAN. After ABC canceled that series in early 1968, Fox negotiated with NBC to air it. However, by the time the deal was made, the main standing set (the Batcave) had been dismantled, and it wasn't economically feasible to rebuild it. But there was an order for a season of a half-hour program...therefore, this--whether it was on the shelf or whipped up in response.

  • @debilt8 It can't equal the 15-year on-again off-again affair Lange had with author John Cheever...he liked people other than the dad of George Costanza's fiancee.

  • @TennisSea Thanks for letting me know.

  • @BigBellyMen The houses are different. The house used in the series is an actual house and still exists, but the one in the 1947 film was constructed by 20th Century Fox on location in Palos Verdes. It no longer exists because it was dismantled after production ended.

  • I had the biggest crush on Hope Lange!
