  • @MrBasilGanglia agreed, Gary Oldman would even tell you the same, who almost refused the role because he knew Alec Guiness couldn't be improved upon

  • This is the one where the thumbnail gives away the identity of the mole. it needs to be changed.

  • @bailangwang Well, I read the book when I was a kid as well as Smiley's People and The Honorable Schoolboy and the BBC versionof TTSS and Smiley's people can't be beat. As much as I like Oldman, Alec Guiness is the greatest actor ever IMO.

  • @MrBasilGanglia I don't know... they're just two very different movies... The BBC version pays more attention to the story, it gives more details, the characters are developped along very different lines, the dialogue is more important. But the new movie has its own rhythm, is somehow more attractive emotionally, even though its attraction is achieved mainly through the visual means. Anyway, I simply liked it.

  • @bailangwang I can't see how they can do this justice on the new version...not a chance.

  • Despicable as he is, Bill Haydon is a pleasure to watch in this scene. Colin Firth gives his character much more warmth and vulnerability.
