i respect everything that comes from the hands of rubenstein, but i must say horowitz's version produces a strong emotional response from me when i listen to it.

@MrBach1313 - If you mean the best RECORDED Chopin performer, I agree, but not the best ever. Reportedly Chopin, listening to Liszt playing Chopin's Etudes, said: "I wish I could steal from him the way he plays them". (Liszt also performed some of the mazurkas in concerts.) That's tough for Rubinstein or anyone to top. Granted, Chopin never heard 20th century pianists, but he certainly knew how he wanted his works to sound, so his view, though limited, is about as definitive as it can get.

i enjoy both Rubinstein and Horowitz on this piece. they are so different. Horowitz is more dramatic with his articulations and dynamics, while Rubinstein has a more pensive and tranquil interpretation. Both exhibit such exquisite moments...
