On tour with Neon Indian, guitarist Ronald Gierhart doesn't bring his own amp on the road with him. Instead he relies on various venues' backline amplifiers or local equipment rental houses for his amplification, a proposition that's as fraught with anxiety and uncertainty as you'd think. The upside is that Ronald's gotten the chance to play through a bunch of different amplifiers, and now knows exactly what amp suits his tone and style best (Vox AC30) and what amp does not (Fender Twin Reverb).

Ronald's work with Neon Indian also marks his transition from a primarily acoustic player to an electric one, and he shared with us his newly-earned insights into finding your way around an amp and keeping yourself from getting frustrated in the search for tone.
