In 1937, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and his son, Elliot, came to Port Aransas, Texas to do some Tarpon fishing. In this clip you will see the president land one of several Tarpon he caught here. Also in this film you will see Guide Teddy Mathews at the helm of his Farley built 'Marcy Boat'. Barney Farley Sr set the trip up and also deckhanded to make sure all went smoothly for the president. You can read Farley's account of this event in his book 'Fishing Yesterdays Gulf Coast'. This video was obtained from the FDR Library by Farley's grandson Keith Farley and delivered to me by Barney Farley III, both of whom are very involved in local historical research.

no wonder there aren't as many tarpon as there once was..because rich idiots who don't know what they are doing either purposly or accidently killing them..tarpon shouldn't be handled like that, and should never be killed..only an a-hole would purposly kill a 20 year old grown tarpon..tarpon are the 1 fish that truly deserves to never be killed, it is the most amazing, unique and mysterious gamefish and it has no food value. they should be preserved for current and future anglers to experience.
Very interesting!!! I guess one never knows what they will find on YouTube. I know the president stayed at Tarpon Inn in Port A - heard these stories from my dad many times when we drove past it going to the beach.
