@MrBlazzzzer watercolours are the easiest paints to start with. What I like about them is you can make as much mess as you like and they just wash off. Different mediums have their own particular techniques. The best way to find out is to just dive in and give them all a go!

@WatercolourWorkshop i sure will!!! but i guess watercolours are a safe bet to begin with right?? is acrylic painting styles similar to watercolours??

@MrBlazzzzer success comes with practise. I've been painting about 5 years and try to paint one a day to keep improving. The show Simply Painting with Frank Clarke helped me enormously as a beginner. Check him out at simplypainting . com

...does the paper need to be stretched before use? Apologies for multiple posts, I am sober (honest!!)

@craigomalley1 before I start to paint I wet the paper all over. The benefits of this are to get the sky, clouds and distant hills in before it dries to give all soft edges. This also stretches the paper so by the time I'm ready to do the middleground the paper has dried, stretched and all I need do is pull the paper tight and refix to the board.

Hi, this is a tremendous video. You used blue and yellow or ochre for the sky which didn't end up turning mucky green. What's the trick? Also, does the pAny help appreciated.

@craigomalley1 it's Raw Sienna I used in the sky with the Ultramarine. I remember watching a Keith Fenwick video and he said exactly the same thing - you'd expect it to go green but it never does.
